About the AFSP Capital Region NY (CRNY) Chapter

The grassroots work our chapter does focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide in Northeastern NY by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

Our chapter serves 15 counties in Northeastern NY. As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent suicide in our communities. Together we are creating a culture that's smart about mental health.

Discover Community Programs

Healing Conversations gives survivors of suicide loss the opportunity to speak with volunteers, who are themselves loss survivors.

Available by phone or video chat, our volunteers are familiar with the isolation that so often accompanies a death of this kind, and are able to show suicide loss survivors a way forward into a world of support.

Talk Saves Lives is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide.

Attendees will learn the risk and warning signs of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it.

Through our educational programs, we teach schools, communities, and workplaces how to best prevent suicide and create a culture that is smart about mental health. AFSP currently has over 30 educational programs. Many of these programs are brought to your local communities free of charge because of the funds raised from our Out of the Darkness Walks.

We provide the opportunity for local volunteers to be trained to present our community and school based programs such as Talk Saves Lives, More Than Sad, and It’s Real: Mental health for Teens or It's Real: Mental Health for College Students.

Contact Area Director Missy Stolfi at mstolfi@afsp.org to inquire about scheduling a program in your community.
