Melanie O. Varady

Senior Director, Eastern Division

Currently the Eastern Division Director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Melanie O. Varady joined the organization in 2010, initially serving as Boston Area Director, and then as Massachusetts Area Director, during which time she oversaw the fundraising, operations, and board management for the Greater Boston and Western Massachusetts Chapters. As Eastern Division Director, she now oversees chapter fundraising and operations in fifteen states from Vermont to Kentucky, and manages a staff of fifteen area directors.

Prior to joining AFSP, Ms. Varady, who is a graduate of the Boston University School of Hospitality, was president of Six Degrees Hospitality Consulting, an advisory company that managed initiatives for non-profit clients including meeting planning, special events, and fundraising strategies, along with volunteer training, recruitment, and management in the New England area.

Ms. Varady serves on the boards of the Executive Committee for the Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention, and Friends of Gymnastics.

Ms. Varady lives in Newton, MA with her husband Jay and their two children, Joe (16) and Nina (13) and their two mini-schnauzers Lily and Zero.
