Lydia Barber is a wife, married for 35 years and mother of three boys. Her family tragically lost their oldest son, Allen, in 2010 at the age of 19, while he was attending college. After that life shattering loss, she wanted to learn everything she could about suicide and mental illness and be involved so other families will never have to endure what her family did. She brought the first Out of the Darkness Walk to Daphne, Alabama in 2011 and has organized it every year since. She recently joined the Alabama Board of Directors, focusing on becoming more involved with education, utilizing the many programs available from the AFSP. Since 2012, she, along with another suicide survivor, organized and facilitates a Survivor of Suicide support group, located in Fairhope, Alabama.
