Biography: Richard Beatty, LICSW, PIP
Richard Beatty joined the AFSP Alabama Chapter Board of Directors in 2018. He is the current Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. He obtained his Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama in 1999, and his professional practice has focused on Mental Health. Mr. Beatty has experience as a case manager, a therapist/clinician, as well as a program coordinator. Over the course of his career, he has worked with a variety of client populations, to include the elderly, the medically frail, the criminally mentally ill, and Veterans. He maintains a strong commitment to dismantling the stigma associated with mental health care and increasing awareness about suicide prevention as a public health issue. After being raised in Southern California, Mr. Beatty moved to Alabama, and has been living in Tuscaloosa, AL for over 25 years.
