Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Ellen graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in psychology. From there, she has lived in Georgia, Maryland and overseas, supporting her husband and 2 (now grown) children on the homefront. Ellen lost her father to suicide in 1991 and, almost 23 years later, her uncle (her dad’s brother) also died by suicide. She began volunteering with AFSP at the beginning of 2015. She is now the chapter’s Survivor Outreach Program Coordinator, sharing her experiences and leading a team of peer support volunteers to let other survivors of suicide loss know they are not alone, and that help and resources are available.
