AFSP State Capitol Days bring together passionate volunteers to advocate for state policy changes that will improve mental health and prevent suicide. We will meet with our state legislators during the event to:
- Share with them why suicide prevention is important to YOU and to your community
- Educate them about the work being done in your community to prevent suicide
- Teach them what more must be done to prevent suicide.
The event will include a brief training session on the basics of an effective advocacy visit and current policy issues impacting suicide prevention. We will then have meeting with several state legislators that will be coordinated onsite.
Breakfast will be provided.
A block of rooms are being held at the Ramkota Hotel for advocates attending the event. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly (605-224-6877) and requesting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention room block. Thanks to the support of the Out of the Darkness Community Walks Across hotels stays will be available for those who request them through scholarship. Please email [email protected] if you would like us to book you a hotel.
