Annual Advocacy Forum
2017 Advocacy Forum: Announcing the Debut of the Virtual Forum
Each year, the Advocacy Forum brings together AFSP Field Advocates, chapter volunteers, and staff to network, share the latest research, and engage members of Congress in discussion on important suicide prevention issues, and share AFSP’s Federal Policy Priorities.
This year’s Advocacy Forum took place June 11 through June 14 in Washington, D.C. For the first time ever, anyone could join in via the Virtual Advocacy Forum. The Virtual Forum featured live video from the event as well as simple steps viewers could take to tell their representatives why mental health and suicide prevention must be a legislative priority. Discussions addressed mental health parity, funding for promising programs, and research aimed at reducing the rate of suicide nationwide.
