About the AFSP Greater Sacramento Chapter
The Greater Sacramento Chapter is proud to represent the communities from the Oregon border to the Sacramento Valley. We are active throughout the year with educational, programmatic, and outreach activities as well as the 7 Out of the Darkness Community & Campus Walks each fall & 5 Survivor Day sites each November.
The grassroots work we do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.
As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent suicide in our communities. Families and friends who have lost someone to suicide, vulnerable individuals, mental health professionals, clergy, educators, students, community/business leaders, and many others energize our chapter.

Introducing AFSP’s Newest Public Policy Council Members: What Advocacy Means to Them
In June of 2021, the Council welcomed three new council members: Alex Byrd Spencer (Sacramento, CA); Corbin Standley (Lansing, MI); and Jennifer Butler (Columbia, SC). Each have served on Chapter Boards, organized walks and other events, and shared their personal connections to the cause as field advocates.
