Barbara Shurgot

Barbara Shurgot serves as the Public Policy Chair for the San Diego Chapter of AFSP and a member of the Chapter Board.
Barbara lost her cousin to suicide in 2007. Since that time, she has become a strong advocate for preventing suicide and improving mental health services. She works diligently to remove the stigma associated with mental illness and supports efforts to improve treatment. Through regular contact with legislators, she seeks to obtain support for important legislation that achieves these goals. In addition, she works to support other loss survivors.
Barbara is the AFSP San Diego Board Chair and the AFSP San Diego Advocacy and Public Policy Committee Chair.
