The American Foundatin for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization committed to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. Money raised through fundraising goes to fund grants for suicide prevention, provide free educational programs, offer support for survivors of suicide loss, and advocate at the state and national level. AFSP has an A rating with Charity Watch and half of the money from each fundraiser stays in the State of Oklahoma.
Now, let's talk about the FUNdraising.
Google provides the following definitions for fun, fund, and raising.
FUN is defined as something that provides enjoyment, is lighthearted, or pleasurable.
FUND is defined as a sum of money made available for a particular purpose.
RAISING to increase the amount, level, or strength.
AFSP believes that fundraising is vital to the mission and that fundraising should be FUN!
What do you do for fun? Are you creative and into Do It Yourself (DIY) projects? Do you make jewelry or bake bread? Do you teach a skill like painting or woodworking? Do you participate in a sport or workout with CrossFit? Do you like to plan events or dinners? What do you do that provides you enjoyment and could be utilized to raise funds for AFSP?
AFSP has a few signature events that you can do if you're not sure about a DIY fundraiser. Out of the Darkness Community or Campus Walks are AFSP's most popular signature fundraising event. Hike for Hope, Ride to Fight Suicide, Paws for Prevention, Tour for Hope, and Team AFSP are also picking up in popularity. Other events that have gained in popularity are Party for Prevention, Suicide is a Drag, and golf tournaments.
