Texas Together on Stage

At the 19th Annual Chapter Leadership Conference of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the Texas chapters emerged as frontrunners, clinching the coveted award for Outstanding Chapter Strategic Partnerships and Innovative Strategies. Among the standout contributors was the West Texas Chapter, whose collaborative efforts with other Texas chapters have set a new standard for statewide engagement and impact.

Under the banner of "Texas Together," five AFSP chapters in Texas united to create a formidable force in suicide prevention, leveraging collective resources, expertise, and community partnerships to drive change across the state. Through a comprehensive approach that prioritizes outreach, programming, and advocacy, Texas Together has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to saving lives and fostering mental health awareness.

A key highlight of Texas Together's achievements lies in its extensive programming efforts. Collectively, the chapters presented a staggering 541 direct and indirect programs, engaging a remarkable 53,743 participants. This statewide programming calendar featured 22 diverse initiatives, including Volunteer 101 sessions, Talk Saves Lives workshops, and special events commemorating Mental Health Month and Suicide Prevention Month.

Moreover, Texas Together spearheaded innovative outreach campaigns, including a strategic postcard mailing initiative aimed at promoting fundraising, programs, and the AFSP mission. This sustained effort ensured that communities remained informed and involved, contributing to the success of AFSP initiatives statewide.

Collaborative partnerships with multimarket sponsors underscored Texas Together's ability to garner support from diverse sectors. The Texas Fundraising Incentive Program, "Champions of Hope," proved highly effective, with 111 champions raising an impressive $252,066.50 in funds, further fueling AFSP's mission.

Beyond fundraising, Texas Together actively engaged in statewide advocacy efforts, participating in initiatives like the Texas Suicide Prevention Collaborative and the NASW Texas conference. Partnerships with organizations like the Texas Center for Student Supports and Texas Health and Human Services amplified AFSP's reach and impact, extending vital resources and support to communities statewide.

The establishment of a dedicated State Capitol Day, collaborative website, and Texas Public Policy Council exemplify Texas Together’ s commitment to effecting systemic change and advancing suicide prevention agendas at the highest levels of governance.

In accepting the award, representatives from the Texas chapters emphasized the power of unity and collaboration in addressing the complex challenges of mental health and suicide prevention. Through their collective efforts, Team Texas has not only raised awareness but also fostered hope and resilience in communities across the Lone Star State.

As AFSP continues its mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide, the Texas chapters stand as shining examples of what can be achieved through partnership, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the cause of mental health. Together, they have proven that by standing Texas Together, anything is possible. #texastogether
