Ohio suicide prevention plans and initiatives
Ohio’s suicide prevention efforts are led by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS), whose priorities include (1) increasing and expanding prevention efforts targeting all Ohioans, in particular those who are most at risk, (2) increasing the capacity of clinicians working within health systems to assist patients at risk for suicide and their families, and (3) developing timely identification of areas of increased need. In the summer of 2019, the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation (OSPF), a key partner of OhioMHAS, initiated a statewide effort to develop a three-year strategic plan and six months later released the Suicide Prevention Plan for Ohio: 2020-2022, developed by a diverse stakeholder group with support from the Governor.
