An Integrated Approach to Understanding the Biology of Suicidal Behavior

We have learned that genetics, as well as brain structure and function, play important roles in suicidal behavior. By studying individuals with bipolar disorder and suicidal behavior, and comparing them with those who have bipolar disorder without suicidal behavior and those with no mental health condition, we can learn about pathways to prevent suicidal behavior for people with bipolar disorder.
