Volunteer Spotlight: Wykisha McKinney

Nov. 29, 2019 - Wykisha McKinney, of the AFSP Southeast Texas Chapter, shares her personal experience of turning to her faith after the loss of her brother from suicide. Wykisha explains that her initial experience in turning to the church wasn’t helpful in her grief journey, but shares a conversation with a minister some time later that was — demonstrating that there are many paths to healing from loss and that for a person of faith, the church can be an important aspect of theirs.

These stories, filmed at our 2018 Chapter Leadership Conference in Charlotte, N.C., feature volunteers from our AFSP Chapters nationwide. To get involved, find your local chapter and check out the volunteer opportunities at the array of programs and events offered year-round!
