Become a suicide prevention Advocacy Ambassador

Advocacy Ambassadors lead public policy activities on behalf of AFSP Chapters. They work closely with chapter leaders and the Public Policy Team throughout the year to establish AFSP as the go-to suicide prevention policy resource in the area.

Typical Field Ambassador activities can include planning an AFSP State Capitol Day event, holding meetings with public officials, testifying at legislative hearings, and speaking at press conferences, among others.

To become a Advocacy Ambassador, interested Volunteer Advocates must apply through their local AFSP Chapter.  Part of your online application will include agreeing to a set of expectations and securing a “sponsor” – a local chapter board member who is recommending you for committee membership.  Completed applications will be reviewed by chapter leaders and staff as well as the Public Policy Team; applicants will be notified by their chapter of the outcome of this review.

Once accepted, Advocacy Ambassadors will serve on their local chapter’s Advocacy/Public Policy Committee and actively support AFSP’s Public Policy Priorities at the federal, state, and local levels.
