The Oklahoma Chapter for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention won in the small chapter category for outstanding International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day (ISOSLD). The chapter experienced an increase of ISOSLD events in the state, a significant increase in attendance and fantastic news coverage of the Edmond event.
Each year on the Saturday before the American Thanksgiving, AFSP hosts ISOSLD events to support survivors of suicide loss as they head into the holiday season. Loss is especially difficult during this season and these important events allow survivors to come together, find connection, understanding and hope through their shared experience.
Chapter Area Director, Tami Kellar accepted the award with Board Chair, Nerissa Berry, Board Secretary Shiela Williams, and Outstanding Volunteer Bill Washington. The Chapter Leadership Conference and subsequent awards, take place every January in different locations throughout the United States.
A special thanks goes out to the individuals that worked so hard to make the ISOSLD events successful in Oklahoma, you are greatly appreciated. If you would like information about hosting an ISOSLD event, please contact Tami Kellar ([email protected]).
