Whether you're looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity or a long-term leadership role, AFSP-NCAC offers a variety of ways to get involved. Explore the engagement level that best aligns with your interests, availability, and volunteer goals.
  • Day-of-Event Volunteer Looking for a flexible way to make a difference? We offer volunteer opportunities throughout the year at chapter events across the National Capital Area. Day-of-event volunteers help with everything from event setup and registration to participant engagement and activity support. While our greatest need is during the Out of the Darkness Walk season (September through October), we host events and outreach activities year-round and welcome volunteers whenever they can lend a hand.

  • Advocate Want to help advance suicide prevention and mental health policy? By becoming an AFSP Volunteer Advocate, you'll join a nationwide grassroots network working to influence policy at the local, state, and federal levels. Through regular updates from AFSP's Public Policy Office, you'll learn about important legislation and receive simple, actionable ways to contact elected officials and support life-saving policy initiatives. Whether you're new to advocacy or have prior experience, your voice can help create meaningful change.

  • Committee Member If you're interested in a more consistent level of involvement, consider joining one of our chapter committees. Committee members work alongside fellow volunteers and chapter leaders to help guide and support our programs, events, and operations. Opportunities range from fundraising and community engagement to chapter administration and strategic initiatives. Some committees operate year-round, while others focus on seasonal projects and events.

  • Chapter Leadership For those seeking a deeper level of engagement, chapter leadership offers the opportunity to help shape the future of AFSP-NCAC. We regularly seek dedicated volunteers to serve in both Board and non-Board leadership positions. Chapter leaders help develop and implement strategic priorities, support and mentor volunteers, and ensure the chapter continues to advance its mission throughout the region.
