The Long Island Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention was presented with Two of the Top Awards at the 20th Annual Chapter Leadership Conference conference on February 1, 2025 in Houston, Texas. With AFSP staff and volunteers represented from all 73 Chapters across the country, the Long Island Chapter received the #2 Top Fundraising Walk ( over 400 Walks across the country) for the Jones Beach Out of the Darkness Walk, and Chapter of the Year, Large Market.
These awards represent the dedication of the Long Island volunteers and community supporters, who continue to engage in the work we are doing in the community and increasing our reach and impact. In addition to leading the way with fundraising, the Chapter made significant increases in the number of educational programs we delivered and the number volunteers trained to attend community events allowing us to reach deep into the community. We offered supported to suicide loss survivors through our Healing Conversations program and International Surivor of Suicide Loss Day, and a Paint to Heal/Sail to Heal event. Our adocacy efforts remain strong with volunteers attending Advocacy Action Days in Albany and Washington D.C.
The Long Island Chapter continues to be a strong example of what can be acheived with a volunteer driven organization when we work together to form partnerships, start conversations, educate, and break barriers associated with asking for help.
Together we continue to make an impact and save lives. We welcome individuals, corporations, and community groups who want to work alongside us as we continue our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.
