Myrtice

Name and Board Title

Myrtice Landers, Programs Chair

Tell us a little bit about your background – personal and/or professional.

I am a widow with four adult children. I like being a 'helper' in my community and church, love the serenity and peace of the sunrise over water, grateful to be part of my children and grandkids lives, and enjoy self-care. I have a passion for promoting suicide awareness and widows support.

I completed a bachelors in Psychology, masters in Education and Education Specialist in Counseling from the University of Florida. I worked in academic advising for 30 years at University of South Florida. Currently, I am an AFSP Tampabay board member, volunteer at grandkids schools, faithful servant in my church, instructor and mentor.

What city do you call home?

Pinellas County

Where did you grow up?

Polk County, Florida

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

No specific hobby, but I enjoy watching Hallmark movies.

Why did you become involved with AFSP-Tampa Bay?
My son died by suicide and my community was not trained to support us. I want to change that by spreading awareness.
What was your first introduction to AFSP?

St Pete Out Of The Darkness Walk in 2016 was my first introduction to AFSP.

What is one of the most important things you would share with the community about AFSP?

AFSP equips the community with tools and resources that addresses mental health and suicide. The variety of free presentations covering all demographics helps spread awareness and help for loss survivors. Make a difference by becoming a trained volunteer.

Anythying else you'd like to share?

There is hope!
