Name and Board Title

Nicole McMickle, Tampa Bay Chapter Board Member

What city do you call home?

Odessa, Florida

Tell us a little bit about your background – personal and/or professional.

I have been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. I worked as a bartender while I was obtaining my BA in Psychology. I loved the energy and connections I made in the hospitality industry and decided to make that a career. I have worked with Bloomin' Brands (parent company of Outback Steakhouse) for 17 years. I have lived in Tampa for 13 years with my family and am the proud mother of three amazing boys. I think I have mastered the art of being a corporate executive with being a present and active mom

Where did you grow up?

Hunterdon County, NJ

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

Fitness is so important for my mental and physical well-being- Peloton and Orange Theory Fitness! I spend many hours at youth sporting events mainly basketball. We love to travel as a family and make time for at least one trip out of the country each year. Fishing of any kind- Deep sea, In-shore, back yard pond.

What might someone be surprised to learn about you?

I am terrified of heights, so I do things to try to overcome my fear like Zip lining, parasailing and tough mudder competitions.

Why did you become involved with AFSP?

I have lost people close to me to suicide, which motivates me to find ways to make a difference. I got involved in AFSP as the Chair for Bloomin' Brands Employee Resource Group, Bloomin Balance. We focus on promoting Mental and Physical well-being in the workplace.

What was your first introduction to AFSP?

Our Employee Resource group formed a team for Walk out of The Darkness in St. Pete. Until we joined the walk we didn't realize how many people in our own organization were affected by suicide in some way.

What is one of the most important things you would share with the community about AFSP?

Many people who are affected by suicide feel like they are alone. Talking about suicide is not easy, and AFSP provides resources, education, and support that are so desperately needed.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I am so proud to be part of the AFSP Board of Directors. Saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide is a huge responsibility and one that we can accomplish together by using our voices and our resources to raise awareness and support in every community.
