About the AFSP Orange County Chapter

THE 2024 OUT OF THE DARKNESS WALK!

Mike Ward Park, Irvine, Orange County, CA
Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

So far we have raised over $92,000 to help fight suicide here in Orange County. You can still raise more! Go to  afsp.org/orangecountywalk

Volunteer Meetings

The OC chapter hosts monthly volunteer meetings typically on the 2nd Monday of each month via ZOOM at 7:00 PM. We have also scheduled some in-person meetings. Our in-person meetings are being held at the Irvine Water District* Community Meeting room (15500 Sand Canyon Ave, Irvine CA 92618). Please see schedule below. Now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent suicide.

"Irvine Ranch Water District makes its facilities available for use by residents and nonprofit organizations merely as a public service, but does not, by allowing this use, endorse or support the purpose of the event or its sponsor."

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. This is an event in which survivors of suicide loss come together to find connection, understanding, and hope through their shared experience.

The grassroots work we do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent suicide in our communities. Families and friends who have lost someone to suicide, vulnerable individuals, mental health professionals, clergy, educators, students, community/business leaders, and many others energize our chapter.

Finding Strength in AFSP’s Overnight Community

I would like to see a world without suicide, in which everyone takes care of their mental health, and all people support one another and are kind to each other. Everyone should have access to the mental health support and services that they need.
