Our volunteers of the month for March are three of our youngest volunteers - Lyla, Allison, and Alexis. These young women helped tremendously during our Missouri State Capitol Day in Jefferson City.
Volunteers from across Missouri met with state representatives and senators to speak about supporting mental heath and suicide prevention legislation.
Lyla R. - 13 yrs old
"What stood out to me was how I got to talk about suicide prevention knowing that a lot of kids at my school struggle with it and most of the things we say has a meaning behind it. I think that the words we say matter! I liked it because it was a positive environment and I loved that we got to write positive things on the banner that everyone could see."
Allison R. - 12 yrs old
"What stood out to me is that I got to help people by spreading awareness about how to get help with your emotions. It was really fun, and I want to come back next year."
Alexis S. - 14 yrs old
"I learned that there needs to be more resources out there for people who have struggles with mental health. I know some things can help, but there can also be a negative impact, such as when bills don't get passed that could help prevent suicide."
Lyla, Allison, and Alexis - we are so fortunate to have had your passionate assistance at the Missouri State Capitol Day! We appreciate you!!
