On May 1, the night following our annual Research Award Dinner, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) held its 36th annual Lifesavers Gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Each spring, AFSP’s Lifesavers Gala recognizes outstanding champions of suicide prevention, whose dedication to the cause has made a powerful impact in our efforts to save lives and spread hope to those affected by suicide. The Gala is an important moment that helps us raise much-needed awareness and funds for AFSP’s leading research, education, advocacy, and support initiatives, while also allowing our community to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments, and use those successes as a springboard for future achievements.
The 2025 Lifesavers Gala was hosted by Emmy-winning anchor and CBS New York reporter Cindy Hsu, and chaired by Mark Baer, partner and former CEO at Crowe LLP. The honorees included major media personality Jay Glazer, who accepted the Public Service Lifesaver Award; mental health advocates and father-daughter duo Ethan and Naomi Sacks, who received the Public Education Lifesaver Award; Eric and Terry Murray, parents of the late PGA Tour player Grayson Murray, who were honored with the Survivors of Suicide Loss Lifesaver Award; Katherine Anne Comtois, PhD, MPH, who accepted the Annual Research Award; and renowned suicide prevention researcher Marsha Linehan, PhD, ABPP, who received the Lifetime Achievement Research Award.
