AFSP Idaho and Okland Construction bring Hard Hat Courage suicide prevention education to construction workers in September 2026.

AFSP's Hard Hat Courage Program Reaches More Than 200 Construction Workers in Idaho

On September 16–17, 2026, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Idaho Chapter partnered with Okland Construction to bring suicide prevention education and awareness directly to the construction industry through AFSP's Hard Hat Courage program.

Over the course of two days, more than 200 construction workers and industry professionals participated in presentations focused on mental health, suicide prevention, and the importance of looking out for one another both on and off the jobsite.

Building a Culture of Connection and Support

Construction workers face unique challenges, including physically demanding work, long hours, high-pressure environments, and a workplace culture where conversations about mental health can sometimes be difficult.

Through Hard Hat Courage, AFSP is working alongside construction industry partners to help change that culture by encouraging open conversations, recognizing when someone may be struggling, and connecting individuals with support and resources.

The presentations at Okland Construction provided an opportunity to reinforce an important message: Asking for help is a sign of strength, and no one should have to face life's challenges alone.

A Partnership That Makes a Difference

AFSP Idaho was proud to collaborate with Okland Construction and Ryan Price to bring these important conversations to employees and industry partners.

By making suicide prevention part of workplace safety and wellness efforts, Okland Construction demonstrated its commitment to supporting the people who make its work possible.

Just as construction teams prioritize physical safety on the jobsite, mental health and emotional well-being deserve that same attention.

Taking Suicide Prevention Beyond the Jobsite

The impact of this partnership extends beyond the two days of presentations. When workers have the knowledge and confidence to recognize warning signs, start conversations, and connect someone with help, they carry those skills into their families, friendships, and communities.

AFSP Idaho is grateful to Okland Construction, Ryan Price, and everyone who participated for helping create a workplace environment where conversations about mental health are encouraged and suicide prevention is everyone's responsibility.

Together, we're building more than structures. We're building hope, connection, and stronger communities across Idaho.
